October 1, 2012

Buriram! I'm still here, and happier than ever. And yes, I'm still
with Elder Segura. Not going to lie, I was kind of hoping that I was
going to move, because Buriram is a dang tough area (probably that
toughest in the area), but after this week, I'm super stoked that I
stayed. Tuesday, we were waiting all day for the call, the stress was
killing us. We went and taught Sis. Ooy that day, and had a great
lesson. We taught her 3 times this week, all about the Restoration. We
just took it very slow, and covered only 2 or 3 points a lesson. It
was so great to see the understanding come into her eyes. She totally
gets the need for the Restoration, the Priesthood, everything. It's so
awesome. We also taught Mii once this week on Friday night. She said
she had the chance to bear her testimony to her husband, and it went
well. The Branch Pres. and his wife came to teach with us, and they
made the lesson that much better. We talked about Baptism again. The
only thing holding her up is that she's still not legally married to
her husband. But me and E. Segura did a fast with her on Saturday and
Sunday, she talked to her husband about it, and he agreed to get
married! Hopefully they can do it soon (preferably this week). The
Zone Leaders are coming over on Thursday, so she could be interviewed
then. And we moved Ooy's date up as well, so they could both get
interviewed on Thursday and baptized on Sunday! So stoked! I think
we'll have at least one, hopefull two. Anyway, back to Tuesday. We
were still waiting for the moves call when English Class started, but
got nothing. It was review night, and we had 16 people! It was way
fun. After reviewing everything, we played a game. Me and Sis. Rose
stood behind a table at the front, and the class had to tell us, in
English, how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was
hilarious. They busted up when I started trying to spread the jar of
peanut butter on the bread. A guy named Ay (pronounced "A") was there.
We had met him at the hospital and gone out to eat with him once. He
speaks great English and had learned with the Elders a few years ago,
so hopefully he becomes interested in the Gospel again. He's a crack
up. Once we got home, we talked to the Zone leaders, but they still
hadn't heard anything. The next day, we went to Surin for District
Meeting. They called in the middle of the meeting and told us that
none of the four elders were leaving. Pretty shocking, we all thought
at least one of us was gone, but we're all happy. Nothing much
happened Thursday and Friday, just teaching Ooy and Mii, and some
inviting and visiting. Saturday, Elder Segura was feeling pretty sick
again (this area is cursed when it comes to sicknesses). We went and
taught Sis. Ooy at 2, and then tried to go and visit a guy from
English Class at his shop, but he wasn't there, so we headed home so
E. Segura could rest. At 6, we went and met with the Branch Pres. to
talk to him about some stuff. We have an idea to get some new
investigators (hopefully). We're going to hand out fliers at the
University or wherever and have people write questions they have about
Christianity. Then we're going to have an activity with a panel of
members and the two Elders to answer the 10 most popular questions. We
hope to do it in a couple of weeks. Pray for us! We need some new
people, especially with two of our current investigators potentially
getting baptized on Sunday. After the Branch President's house, we
came home early because E. Segura was feeling pretty horrible. He went
to bed and I went to work. I totally cleaned up the main area of our
house. You would be proud of me, Mom. Hope to be able to get some more
cleaning done today. Last night, we went out to see Bad, and talk to
her about Toto. He wasn't at church. She was just sitting on the
porch, but said she "wasn't free." She just has no interest in
learning with us anymore. So sad. We couldn't see Toto, but hopefully
he comes back to church next week. After that, we went with Sis. Rose
to visit an LA, Golf. He committed to come back to church next week.
He's the kid we played tennis with. We've also decided to work with
Sis. Rose a little more. She's a great asset to the work.
Sounds like everything at home is going great! We won't get conference
here until the next week, so no spoilers! Oh and I got a new camera,
it's sweet. Hope to hear from you soon!
Well gotta go, love you all! The Church is True!
Love, Elder Sharp
