April 22, 2013

Hey Family, what's up? I'm doing solid here in Thonburi. This last week was pretty different than normal, but that's ok. We got a lot of good stuff done, and hopefully some REALLY good stuff is going to happen this week. On Wednesday this last week we went to Asoke and had Zone Specialty training. My Zone Leaders right now are Elder Segura (an old comp once again) and Elder Appleyard (from England). This is the first time either of them are ZL's, and they did a really good job. They taught about consecrating ourselves to the Lord by giving him all of our Heart, Might, Mind, and Strength. It was really inspiring, and then we watched a large portion of 17 Miracles to give some examples of consecrated lives. I wish I had watched that entire movie before I left. Those pioneers were amazing. After that I had the opportunity to interview with President Senior. He is so good. He gave me the exact advice that I needed, and really cares about this mission. I'm definitely privileged to be serving under him, especially at this time. The majority of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were spent visiting strong members and less-actives, with a bit of teaching investigators in between. We figured out that there are over 400 members in the Thonburi boundaries alone, and we only get 40-50 people at church every week. Yeah, I think there's some work we could do there. From the time I came into Thonburi with Elder Oak to now, we've always had plenty of investigators to fill our time. Now, it's kind of died down. But I think it's a sign from God telling us to switch our focus a little bit. I'm really excited to start working with some of the ward leaders a little more, and finding some LA's. We're getting a good plan put into place, so it should be good. Let me know if you have any ideas for the missionaries or ward members in helping LA's come back strong. Anyway, right now we have like, 1 1/2 investigators? Dukadan is still there, I'll tell you about her in a minute. NamKeng was going good. We taught him a couple of times this past week, and they were really good lessons. We extended the baptismal commitment for the 12 of May, and he accepted! Then it kind of went downhill. Soda told us the next day that he had told his mom about it, and she said no. Apparently he's one of two children or grandchildren of his grandparents, and the other one is already Christian. What that means is that he has to be a monk sometime in the future, so he can't get baptized right now. AH! That really threw a wrench in our plans. Now we are planning on trying to turn our focus to their mom, but we don't know if she'll agree to meet yet. Please pray for her to open her heart! Now as for Dukadan. We had a "do or die" lesson with her on Saturday night. Basically we just told her that she won't really progress in the Gospel anymore until she gets baptized. I felt prompted to tell her that is she did choose to be baptized, she won't have any problems with her family in the future. I trust that God will follow through on that promise, and it helped boost her confidence as well. Last night, she told her dad that she was going to be baptized, and then immediately hung up. He didn't try to call back, so we'll see what happens when she calls again tonight. Please pray for her! This is the only thing standing in her way. If she chooses to, she will be interviewed on Wednesday, and baptized on the 28th! This is the baptism that I really want to see. She's changed so much, and has great faith in God and Christ. This coming week is just going to be a lot more of working with LA's. Oh, and if you're wondering about Fuse, we kind of dropped her. She just doesn't have a real desire, and her aunt is making it really hard to meet and teach her, so we decided she's not ready at this time. We might try to meet with her once more, but if it doesn't work, she's dropped. Sad, but there's hope for the future.
How's everything going at home? Mother's Day is next month...crazy! Can you believe it's already been 4 months since I talked to you? I'm thinking maybe this time a Google+ account could be set up, and then we could have multiple devices chatting at once. Whatever you guys wanna do. Can't wait to see and talk to you! I will be calling on the 13th, so it will be the 12th (Mother's Day night for you).
Rest of the Fam - Love you all too! Hit me up soon!
Well, gotta go. The Church is True!
Love, Elder Sharp
